Holiday Fun in Downtown Long Valley

The Long Valley Village Association's Third Annual Holiday Happenings will be held on Sunday, December 7th in downtown Long Valley. The festivities will be from 3-6pm leading up to the annual tree-lighting.

Local businesses will host fun-filled events for the whole family including, pictures with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides, cookie decorating, holiday open houses, musical performances, refreshments, holiday crafts and activities for all ages.

Gingerbread House Display & Contest

During the event, gingerbread creations will be on display at 18 Schooley's Mountain Road during the 4th Annual Gingerbread House Contest and Display sponsored by The Long Valley Junior Women's Club.

All children and families are welcome to enter a gingerbread creation of their own design for display and prizes. Pre-registration is required at www.lvva.org.

Plan to stay for the 22nd annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Zion Lutheran Church at approximately 6:00 pm. The tree lighting will be followed by a very special visit from Santa Claus.

In addition, this year the bottom of Schooley's Mountain Road will be aglow with hundreds of luminaries and holiday trees. You won't want to miss it!

Helping to Spread the Holiday Cheer

Send greeting cards to the troops - during Holiday Happenings, children and adults will be able to make and send holiday cards to US soldiers. Seasonal cards, and supplies to make homemade ones, will be available. These cards will be collected and sent out to members of our armed forces serving overseas or who injured soldiers who are back in the state recuperating.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors - In the spirit of the season, people are requested to bring donations of canned goods or other non-perishable items to be distributed to local families in need during the holiday season.

Animal Rescues - New this year, the Long Valley Dog Park will have a drop off for the "Collection for the Paws" to benefit Noah's Ark and the Eleventh Hour animal rescues.

"My Long Valley" Poster Contest Deadline Extended

The deadline for all entries for the posters has been extended to May 17, 2008.

The Long Valley Village Association (LVVA) and Long Valley Arts are still accepting poster submissions for the LVVA "My Long Valley" poster contest.

The artwork for the poster should be something that shows your passion and town spirit! Poster rules are that the format needs to be vertical and 24 x18" in size. The artwork can be in any media and should be something recognizable in Long Valley. Although it is not required, should artists wish to include copy for the poster, it should read "My Long Valley" and can include "lvva.org "

There are separate entry divisions for Adult, High School, Middle School, 4th and 5th Grade, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grade. The winning entries will be chosen and notified on or about May 18, 2008.

A winning entry could be a future stamp and/or poster for sale in local Long Valley businesses. Proceeds from the sales will be used towards planning future LVVA community events. All entries will be on display from May 2nd - 18th at The Arts Building, 18 Schooley’s Mt. Road, Long Valley and at Valley Quest.

Entries may be dropped off at PNC Bank, 67 East Mill Road, Long Valley between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and Saturday 9-noon. Please include your name, address, telephone number and email address when you submit your entry.

The Long Valley Village Association (LVVA) and Long Valley Arts are now accepting poster submissions for the LVVA "My Long Valley" poster contest.

The artwork for the poster should be something that shows your passion and town spirit! You may include anything that you feel the town means to you or your family. You can include a local business, historical building, or even just the local scenery. It's up to you! Be creative and have fun with it.

The winning entries could be a future stamp and/or poster for sale in local Long Valley businesses. Proceeds from the sales will be used towards planning future LVVA community events. All entries will be on display at Valley Quest 2008 (May 18th) and then for a month-long showing at The Arts Building, 18 Schooley's Mt. Road, Long Valley.

The poster requirements are as follows:

  • The poster is vertical
  • The size of the artwork is to be 24 x18 (actual poster size is 25 x 19)
  • The artwork can be in any media
  • The artwork should be something recognizable in Long Valley

Although it is not required, should artists wish to include copy for the poster, it should read as follows:

  • Headline: "My Long Valley"
  • Include: lvva.org

Entry divisions include:

  • Adult

May 18 - Save the Date for Valley Quest 2008

The Second Annual Valley Quest will be held on Sunday, May 18th.

Each participating team will get a list of clues that will lead to various places around Long Valley. Along the way, Questers will work together to solve clues and join in contests to collect points and prizes.

As part of the day’s events, each team will get a LVVA tote bag containing special offers and surprises. Everyone participating will go home with something fun from the day. Prizes will be awarded to the teams who have collected the most points at the end of the Quest.

There will be special prizes for the Best Team Photo, Most Creative Team Name and Best Team Outfit.

The Valley Quest is a free event sponsored by the Long Valley Village Association, a group of local business and non-profit organizations whose goal is to promote awareness of Long Valley and encourage people to live locally and shop locally.
